This archive is the work of many hands. It exists thanks to the people who tracked down physical copies in libraries and offices, scanned them page by page, and identified and catalogued each one. We are grateful to all of them.

How to contribute

Use the form below to tell us what you have. It helps to include:

1. the census year, state and district on the cover;
2. which Part or Volume it is, if the cover says;
3. whether you have a scan or a print copy, and roughly how many pages.

There is no need to send large files with your first message. Tell us what you have and we will reply about how to send it.

You can also email us at info@devdatalab.org for anything else, such as bulk downloads.

What we are looking for

• Handbooks we do not hold. Any District Census Handbook from the censuses of 1951 to 2011 for a district with no handbook in the archive.
• Missing Parts and Volumes. Many handbooks were published in several Parts or Volumes; we often hold one but not the other.
• Other census volumes and supplements. Supplements, appendices and other district-level publications from these censuses are welcome too. We are building harmonised, digitised data series from them, and anything with district-level detail helps.
• Scans or print copies. A scan of any quality is welcome, as is a printed or photocopied book that has never been scanned.

What we know is missing

These are the handbooks, Parts and Volumes we can tell are missing from the books we hold and the published part schemes; there are likely more. If you have something from these censuses, please get in touch even if it is not listed. Each district links to its census page; the glossary explains the terms.
